Why has my bore pump stopped working?

By South West Tech

A bore pump can stop working for several reasons, ranging from a simple electrical issue to normal wear and tear. Common causes include a tripped circuit breaker, faulty pressure switch, damaged wiring, blocked pipework, low water levels in the bore or a pump that has reached the end of its service life.

Before assuming the pump has failed, it's worth checking that the power supply is working and looking for any obvious issues, such as a tripped breaker or blown fuse. If your property uses a solar bore pump, it's also worth checking that the solar controller is operating correctly and that the panels aren't heavily shaded or covered in dirt. If everything appears normal but the pump still isn't running, it's best to avoid repeatedly restarting it, as this can cause further damage if the pump is running dry or has developed an internal fault.

In some cases, the issue may be repairable without replacing the entire pump. Problems such as faulty controllers, damaged wiring or worn components can often be repaired, while older or heavily worn pumps may need replacing. South West Tech can inspect, service and repair bore pump systems, identify the cause of the fault and recommend the most practical solution to restore a reliable water supply.
