What solar rebates are available in QLD?
By South West Tech
If you're installing solar in Queensland, there are several government incentives that can help reduce the upfront cost.
The exact savings will depend on the size of your system, the equipment you choose and when it's installed.
The good news is that most rebates are applied automatically by your installer, so you generally don't need to complete any paperwork yourself.
Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs)
The main incentive available for solar panels is the Australian Government's Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).
Under this scheme, eligible solar systems receive Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), which are usually exchanged for an upfront discount on the cost of your installation.
The value of the rebate depends on factors including:
The size of your solar system.
Your location in Australia.
The current market value of STCs.
In sunny parts of Queensland, the rebate can reduce the upfront cost of a solar system by thousands of dollars. In most cases, this discount is already included in the quoted price you receive from your installer.
Solar Battery Incentives
If you're installing a home battery, there is also a federal battery incentive available through the same Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme.
Like the solar panel rebate, this incentive is generally applied as an upfront discount by your installer rather than being paid to you after installation.
The amount you receive depends on the battery's usable capacity and the rebate rate in place at the time of installation, with the incentive gradually reducing over time.
